Schema Markup Cheat Sheet by Business Type

What's inside

  • What to add by business type: Organization and BreadcrumbList for every site, LocalBusiness or a narrower subtype for local firms, Product with Offer for online shops, Article or BlogPosting for publishers, Event for in-person public events, and Recipe or JobPosting where relevant.
  • What each type supports: from business details and breadcrumbs in desktop results to pricing, stock status and review stars for products.
  • Retired or restricted features: FAQ rich results, which Google stopped showing for every site on 7 May 2026; HowTo rich results, withdrawn in 2023; several other types removed during 2025 and 2026; and self-serving review stars.
  • Good practice: matching markup to visible content, testing your pages and checking Search Console for errors.

Who it's for

Business owners, marketers and developers deciding which structured data to add, or reviewing markup that a plugin or a previous agency has already put in place.

How to use it

Find your business type in the table and compare the recommended types with what your site already has. Use JSON-LD, the format Google recommends, and only mark up information that's visible to visitors. Run each page through the Rich Results Test before publishing, then test it again once it's live. Valid markup can qualify a page for rich results, but there's no guarantee: Google decides what to show.
